May meeting

We were thrilled to have Jen Giddens, pattern designer, be our guest speaker!  She also had a trunk show of her bags and purses, which had us ooohhhing and aaahhhing:

And the results of the block challenge:
.....many of which are going in to quilts to be raffled off at the Hipster's Craft Show July 13!

Will you help?  We'll be collecting blocks donated and mailing them to Boston to be made into quilts for the bombing victims, families and others affected by the tragedy last week.  Here are the details:

Blocks sent to the Boston Modern Quilt Guild should be blue, yellow, gray, and white. All blocks should be 12½” tall x the width of your choice. That could mean 12½” x 7”, 12½” x 12½”, or anything wider, more narrow, or in between. Please machine piece your blocks in any style you would like. Please use only “quilt shop quality” 100% cotton or cotton/linen fabrics. Both print and solid fabrics are welcome. Our preference is white or light gray 100% cotton thread, but any coordinating thread of good quality will do.

Please get blocks dropped off to Hip Stitch by May 18 at the very latest,
 and we'll ship them off.

Thank you, Boston Modern Quilt Guild, for putting this together!

April meeting

The creativity was flowing last night at our meeting!  Melissa and Lois presented a challenge - we broke into 2 groups, with each group having a bag of scraps....we had 30 minutes to plan, cut, sew iron and finish a modern block.  It was fascinating to see how little or much planning went into this timed activity.....and how we truly ensconced Jacquie Gering's "Break Free, Go Bold" philosophy!

Here are a few pics: (I apologize for you having to turn your head to see a few....computer is refusing to rotate)

May's meeting will have us presenting our finished Emerald block challenge....which will then be all put together to go into the raffle quilt at the July Hipster's Craft Show - excitement!!

MQG Working Group

Today - Sunday afternoon - was the perfect day to begin our Jacquie Gering working group.    Our goal is to each work on a technique of Jacquie's.....but today, we worked on our own modern projects - Melissa and Linda each did indeed follow Jacquie's modern-ness, though!

Happy New Year from the ABQ MQG!

Our posting has been far and few between lately, we know. (ahem, Oct. was the last....)  And we apologize for that.  Our MQG has been more formerly formed since then, with a snazzy Steering Committee, and a new website being worked on and will be up soon!

In the meantime, our 1st meeting of 2013 was filled with:  people, projects, programs, and pictures:

Awesome Modern Quilting, no?
